The moment of reunion of breaking fans with b-boys and b-girls from around the world is quickly approaching. From the 1st to the 4th of September, the World Battle, a world event of urban dance, is back in Porto for “four days of real energy”, promises the organization.

In addition to the international competition, participants in the event will be able to attend in “cyphers, parties and workshops and live the unique spirit of breaking, hip-hop, locking and many more styles that will pump Porto up with good vibes” you can read on the official World Battle site.

The different sessions of the event will be distributed in several venues in the city: the daily workshops take place at the MXM Artcenter; Saturday, September 3 qualifiers are scheduled for Hard Club; and the semi-finals and finals on Sunday, September 4, will take place at Coliseu Porto Ageas.

The organization of World Battle’s relies on Max Oliveira, coordinator of the programs Desporto no Bairro and Ao Ritmo do Bairro. Porto City Hall, through the municipal company Domus Social – responsible for preparing, developing, and implementing projects in the social area – will take 300 children from different neighbourhoods to the World Battle, especially those who have been participating in the aforementioned programs, whose tickets have already started to be distributed.

The love for breaking began to reach children and young people resident in the neighbourhoods of Porto since 2020, combining sports practice with a social aspect within the scope of the Desporto no Bairro program. The debut of breaking as an Olympic sport is scheduled for the Paris Olympic Games, in 2024.
