With UP the sky is the limit

João Matias, alumnus of the Master of Mechanical Engineering at FEUP- Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto took the next step on the ladder to a career in aviation when he crossed the ocean and moved to Florida, USA, to study to become a pilot.

From early on, Matias understood that his professional career had to be on the technological field; this is why he studied at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), and graduated in Mechanical Engineering.

"FEUP is part of my path, it is where I studied and made friends for life. I am very proud to say I am a FEUP alumnus, the place where I have gained the necessary solid mathematical background, where I have met the true brains of Portuguese Engineering", João Matias states.

From December 2012 to May 2014, João Matias underwent an intensive training in Florida and when he graduated the Aviation School offered him a position as a flight instructor.

In April 2016, Matias decided to embark on a different journey, crossed the ocean, again, and became a pilot at Ryanair Airliner.

"One of the biggest advantages of being a pilot is the opportunity to meet different destinations but the coolest thing ever is the indescribable feeling of overflying the Portuguese territory", João Matias enthuses.
