Urban art is the centre of all attention of the new promotional video of Porto, which illustrates the diversity of the works that decorate the city streets and give it such unique and differentiating characteristics, besides valuing the work and creativity of its authors.

The city landscape has been sharply transformed by urban art in the last couple of years, mainly thanks to the will and creativity of the artists who make the streets their gallery of choice, but also, due to some municipal initiatives that have been promoting the dissemination of this activity throughout the city and its valorisation.

As it took hold in cities, urban art is no longer seen as vandalism or persecuted as if it were a plague. Today, this form of art is appreciated by the community, driven by institutions, and encouraged by the benefits it generates, whether at a social, cultural, urban or landscape level. It is, therefore, increasingly a unique and differentiating feature of cities, which is valued and encouraged.

One of the main goals of this new video is to highlight that urban art has the virtue of decorating and rejuvenating Porto, associating art with the faces of its authors, who are responsible for the creative process that has brought so much colour and freshness to the city. Many of the works portrayed in the promotional video, and other scattered around the city, have a relevant role in the rehabilitation of walls, either in vacant or boarded up buildings, or in murals made available for this purpose.

In the video you can see widely recognised works, or more discreet ones by renowned names such as Mr.Dheo, Hazul, Vhils or Daniel Eime, among others. Take the opportunity to make plans to get to know the urban art of Porto and enjoy a different and very photogenic walk.

To boost this activity and to establish a new and closer relationship with the artistic community, the territory and its inhabitants, the municipal company Ágora developed the Programa de Arte Urbana do Porto, inaugurated in 2014, which has laid the foundations of a route that has not stopped growing and transforming the city’s landscape. As a result of this initiative, more than 80 artistic interventions have already been carried out in the public space of the city of Porto, including ephemeral or permanent works, in its most diverse expressions, involving more than six dozen artists, new and renowned, national and international.

The video “Arte Urbana” is part of a set of 22 promotional videos that the Municipality of Porto is launching with the aim of publicising and enhancing the city, as well as promoting it locally, nationally, and internationally, presenting a captivating Porto in all its dimensions: culture, architecture, heritage, gastronomy, crafts, urban art, sports, or hospitality.
