The BMW Group chooses Porto to reach the next milestone: the car of the future

The BMW group, reputed German trend setter and world class automobile engineering has chosen Porto to reach its next milestone: building the car of the future.

This undertaking will rely on the partnership of the Portuguese Company Critical Software, who will jointly develop and produce in the city of Porto a pioneer software that will be used in the BMW automobile fleet.

BMW betting on the Portuguese company Critical Software - whose client portfolio includes NASA - for this joint venture will lead to the establishment of Critical TechWorks, which will be based in the city of Porto.

The announcement, by Publico Newspaper, explains that at this point the only "missing part" in this venture is the "green light" of regulatory entities so that the project can move forward.

According to Critical Software CEO, Gonçalo Quadros, "this is a giant step for our company".

Quoted by Publico Newspaper, Gonçalo Quadros further states that "Critical TechWorks will be a pioneer at global scale in manufacturing a premium quality automobile".

Critical TechWorks will be headquartered in Porto, where the company has already established in 2017 and it will rely on the support of this unit and the unit based in Lisbon.

This announcement of the BMW- Critical Software joint venture coincides with Critical's 20th anniversary.

Critical Software client portfolio includes the British Armed Forces, Spatial Agencies NASA, from the USA, ESA from Europe, CNSA from China, JAXA from Japan, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, EDP or the Bank of New York.

"Porto is a vibrant city, internationally acknowledged as an innovation leader, with intelligent workforce and material mix of excellence", declared Critical Software CEO at the time of the opening of the company's premises in Porto in 2017.
