The Museu Gráfico Cabinet provides a big picture on punk aesthetics and the "do-it-yourself" as regards fanzines from Porto, from the 1980’s until our time. The exhibition will be on display until 15 August. Entrance is free.

"Materiais Inflamáveis: Culturas de Resistência, Médias Alternativos e Fanzines (1982-2021)". this long sentence describes the theme of the second exhibition by the Gabinete Gráfico of the Museu da Cidade, located at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. Curators Paula Guerra and Pedro Quintela and the museum’s Centre for Planning selected a series of fanzines (originals and replicas), music, posters, brochures and visual materials, produced by independent and artistic experimenting movements in the city. The display inaugurated today, at 3 pm. Entrance is free until 15 August.

This exhibition is held in the scope of the KISMIF Conference and Summer School, which is ongoing in Porto between 6 and 10 July, and whose motto is "DIY Cultures and Global Challenges". Audiences are invited to learn about the alternative punk and underground cultural media that echo still to this day.

Last May, the Museu da Cidade organised a talk on this subject and on 24 July, there will be a workshop on how to build a fanzine.

This is the second exhibition by the museum’s Gabinete Gráfico, following "Panfletarismo", which displayed hundreds of posters and brochures of the Communist Party archive, an exhibition that was part of the 100th anniversary celebration programme of the Communist Party.

The exhibit is on display at the foyer of the Auditorium of the Municipal Library Almeida Garrett, a space of the Museu da Cidade that develops a programme devoted to temporary exhibitions and workshops on the graphic productions’ ecosystem in Porto.

The exhibition “Materiais Inflamáveis" will give place to the exhibit themed “Errata", on 27 August, which highlights the overlooked work by women designers during the twentieth century.

The Gabinete Gráfico is open during the library’s timetable: from Monday to Saturday, between 10 am and 1 pm, and between 3 pm and 6 pm.
