"Portugal's Entrepreneurial University Ranking 2023" came to a conclusion: the former students of the University of Porto are the most entrepreneurial in the country. Startup Portugal's initiative found 275 startup founders among the graduates of the Porto institution, but the Polytechnic of Porto also enters the "top 10", with 60 entrepreneurs.

"We are pleased to see the University of Porto making a positive evolution in the number of founders it is training and integrating into the market", says the executive director of Startup Portugal.

Cited by Notícias UP, António Dias Martins explains that this ranking, launched for the first time in 2022, seeks to "promote university entrepreneurship and encourage the development of innovative projects in its curricula".

The list of entrepreneurial alumni is based on data from Dealroom.com, a global intelligence data platform on startups, innovation, high-growth companies, and ecosystems.

According to Startup Portugal, there are at least 1,650 founders in the ten best-ranked national higher education institutions. The figure confirms an increase of 21.15% compared to the first edition of "Portugal's Entrepreneurial University Ranking 2023".

The study also shows that Management, Law, Engineering and Health are the main areas of training for these entrepreneurs.

The University of Porto recalls that, between 2010 and 2023, 123 spin-off companies were born by the hand of people linked to the institution, 110 of them still active. According to the latest data, these companies raised close to 150 million euros in investment, generating more than 80 million euros in profit last year.

In 2023, the U.Porto spin-offs generate 77 patents and have already created more than 1,800 jobs.
