The market for student accommodation in Porto is buoyant. Quality accommodation for potential students is now available in the city centre. 

A new academic year will soon start and a fresh intake of students will move into brand new housing.

A five level building with 20 double bedrooms, for domestic students coming to study in Porto, foreign students under the Erasmus Mundus programme and teachers and researchers as well. The housing facilities include 40 beds, pantry to support breakfast and snacks services, kitchen, recreation and study rooms and a hall. The student's accommodation is mixed.

The "Residências Galerias Misericórdia -The Gallery House" were inaugurated and are installed in an New Art renovated building, at Galerias de Paris street, by Misericórdia do Porto, in the scope of the urban regeneration of built heritage programme, within a dynamic and price-conscious market for the four-year term from 2016-2020.

Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, attended the opening and highlighted "the need to tackle market shortages".

"Student accommodation is one of our top concerns and the University is working on this as well. So, it is rather crucial that an association as Santa Casa da Misericórdia, that seeks to Refurbish buildings can help to meet the demand in terms of quality accommodation and not just profit", the Mayor concluded. 

Director of Santa Casa da Misericordia do Porto affirmed that as the major private sector housing market landlord in the city, "we are trying to solve the needs that the market cannot meet, namely to students, people with reduced mobility, and the elderly population".
