Six galleries in Porto display collective exhibition to demonstrate why galleries play an important role in society

These troubled times need a type of sustenance that sometimes only art can provide: culture as a way of understanding society and the world; as such, galleries are a fundamental setting to reach audiences and to showcase the work of artists.

Mayor Rui Moreira visited the collective exhibition, alongside Guilherme Blanc, who also participated in the project while responsible for the department of Contemporary Art and Cinema (he is now the artistic director of Batalha Centro de Cinema), and were joined by the commissioner of the project, Miguel von Hafe Pérez, touring the galleries included in the collective exhibition themed “Situação 21”.

This project marks the relevance of the work by these galleries under harsh times, amid the ongoing pandemic and the restrictive measures in place that make the work by national artists and their internationalisation all the more significant as ways of boosting innovation, production and creativity that entails a vision of the future, something to long for.

The collective exhibition “Histórias com amanhã – uma cartografia solidária da relevância das galerias do Porto”, curated by Miguel von Hafe Pérez is now open and can be visited until 5th June. This is the result of a collaborative work between six galleries in the city of Porto, the promotors of this initiative, jointly produced by Porto City Hall.

There are now six new exhibitions to explore, between the streets of Miguel Bombarda, Restauração, Calçada de Monchique (Miragaia) and Alegria. Check them out and be truly inspired:
