Santa Cecilia International Competition gathers one hundred pianists in Porto

Porto welcomes a hundred young musicians in the context of the Santa Cecilia International Competition.

Young people from 26 countries arrive in Porto to take part in this international competition, which is sponsored by Porto City Hall. 

China, Japan, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Italy and Portugal are some of the represented nationalities, aged between six and 32 years old, who take part in eliminatory rounds of piano.

This competition is organised by "Curso de Música Silva Monteiro" and the final of this 19th edition takes place 23 July, at 6 pm and it is open to the public, at Sala Suggia in Casa da Música.

The winner will perform on stage for the first time with Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, and conducted by maestro Osvaldo Ferreira.

The jury is composed by reputed national and international experts such as Álvaro Teixeira Lopes, Carles Lama, Constantin Sandu, Deniz Gelenbe, Emmanuel Ferrer-Laloë, Frank Reichand and Fu Hong.

The competition is sponsored by the Government of Portugal, Porto City Hall and several entities, namely Manuel António da Mota Foundation, Eng.º António de Almeida Foundation, KNS Classical, BPI and Bial.
