Choreographer Salia Sanou, from Burkina Faso, one of the most reputed names in African dance, takes to the stage "Du désir d'horizons", on 8 June, at 9.30 pm at Rivoli.

Salia Sanou set up this performance to provide an artistic expression of the symbols of loss and displacements within refugee camps.

The choreographer has conducted workshops in numerous refugee camps in Africa and through dance he tales the stories behind the refugee condition and the concepts of flight, asylum and exile, as a catharsis for cultural and social freedom.

Five years ago, the "African Artist for Development" Foundation has used dance as a psychological supportive instrument to help refugees in eight African countries, namely in Burundi and Burkina Faso. That experience led Sanou to setting up this performance.

Concurrently, on 7th June, Salia Sanou and Jérôme Kaboré will conduct a workshop at the Rivoli. This initiative is targeted at all of those who wish to dance, and no prior dance experience is required.
