Red Bull Air Race is considered the benchmark in terms of safety procedures. This was highlighted during the press conference, held in Vila Nova de Gaia City Hall regarding the action plan for the safety and security of this event that will take place in river Douro, between the cities of Porto and Gaia from 1 to 3 September.

Organisation, mayors from both municipalities and officials of the several rescue and safety teams sent out a clear message: all is being done to ensure peak conditions in this event.

Fernando Figueiredo, from Red Bull Air Race organisation team stressed that "what is being done in Portugal is not a national example but rather a global one. In fact, since 2007 Red Bull Air Race safety procedures are considered a worldwide benchmark".

At a time when terrorism is a major concern, the authorities in charge of the event wanted to convey a sense of calm. Mayor of Porto stressed that "although it is not possible to address cross-border issues, like terrorist attacks, the city has implemented a significant number of preventive measures".

"People can rest assured and watch the race with tranquillity as everything has been timely prepared together with the organisation", Mayor Rui Moreira added.

In turn, Mayor of Vila Nova de Gaia, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues, echoed this statement: "We are highly committed to ensuring that everything runs smoothly".

Rui Moreira also informed that Casa do Roseiral, in Porto, has prepared a reserved area for bystanders with disabilities or reduced mobility.
