Recommendations on waste disposal during the Covid-19 pandemic

The municipal company Porto Ambiente developed communication materials to raise citizen's awareness on how to properly dispose of garbage, namely the storing of garbage outside waste skips. 

In addition, there needs to be a correct handling of masks, gloves and paper tissues, among others, to help prevent and avoid potential virus contagion.

The Porto Ambiente has put stickers with messages on the waste bins to alert people on the correct garbage disposal and how to handle sensible materials, as putting gloves, paper tissues and masks in the unsorted municipal waste container and NOT on the plastic or cardboard container, as often detected by the Porto Ambiente Teams.

These atypical times call for strengthened attention on garbage disposal. Thus, people should put waste on hermetically sealed plastic bags, packed up to two-thirds of capacity.

Porto Ambiente also carries on frequent equipment and materials disinfections, by specialized teams so that waste disposal is done safely.
