Although a normal school and working day, the Feast of The Three Kings is still very much a family tradition.
As such, to remember the Wise Men (aka Three Kings), people eat the King's Cake, made with buttery puff pastry filled with candied fruits and sing the Epiphany carol known as the 'Janeiras' (January songs).

This morning, a group of 145 children was welcomed at Porto Council Chambers to wish the Mayor of Porto and the Councillors, as well as to the city, a fortunate 2019 by singing the "Janeiras".

This event was held in the context of the Municipal Programme "Porto de Apoio à Família", targeted at developing conceptual and pedagogical activities to pre-school children. Every class is provided music lessons twice a week. The project, totally funded by Porto City Hall, comprises 1684 children, in a total of 79 groups from state schools in Porto.

At the end of the ceremony the Municipal Executive handed each child a symbolic souvenir.
