Porto Municipal Theatre steps into the new season, January to July 2017, staging 41 shows in the first three months of the year, of which 15 premieres and 19 joint productions.

The programme for this first quarter 2017 Season kicks off with Rivoli's 85th Anniversary celebration on January 21. These will include dance, theatre, music, literature, visual arts and film. A special highlight to Catalan Theatre Company El Conde de Torrefiel that premieres in Porto La Posibilidad que desaparece frente al paisaje, from a Pablo Gisbert text.

The subject of the possibility that disappears vis-a-vis the landscape is the latest creation of the Spanish company El Conde de Torrefiel. Over time, a bucolic forest ends covering the land that was filled with human tragedies, a reflection on the wilderness of the mind, threatened by corruption and fear.

Also Olivier Saillard, Curator at Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode, features a world premiere of his latest work "Couture Essentielle". Olivier Saillard is one of fashion's premier historians and curators. He has curated some of the most exclusive and innovative fashion exhibitions at the Musée de la Mode in Paris and Marseille, the Musée Bordelle and the Victoria & Albert museum in London.

The 2016 season staged 150 shows, 26 international and 95 national, which involved 1,210 artists and brought to the theatres of Rivoli and Campo Alegre more than 100 thousand spectators. The new season of the Teatro Municipal do Porto 2017 has a two-fold aim: to be intense and to be evermore engaging. "We are taking this to the next level", ascertains Tiago Guedes, Director of TMP.

This year's season will be staged in both Rivoli and Campo Alegre Theatres. The programme will have "a strong international dimension, while maintaining, a parallel and deep connection with the artists and companies of Porto," said Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, adding that the 85 shows scheduled until July - 45 of this shows will be staged by local artists and companies - will cost more than 600 thousand euros.

Porto Municipal Theatre prompts to stimulating in-depth reflection on the migratory crisis, the refugees and the territorial and political demands of our time.

The National Ballet Company is back to Rivoli for a more contemporary repertoire than usual, choreographed by Akram Khan - "iTMOi".

Also in March, the Municipal Theatre stages "Couture Essentielle", by Olivier Saillard. A joint production in the Arab Hall of the Stock Exchange Palace, with the Commercial Association of Porto.
