In the same year that Porto was voted, for the third time, European best Destination, Porto Airport was voted the best in Europe in the category of five to 15 million passengers and the third best in the category of more than two million passengers by Airports Council International.

ACI Europe represents more than 500 airports in 45 countries, and is in charge of handling over 90 percent of commercial air traffic in Europe and for processing more than 1.9 billion passengers annually.

The prize was awarded based on a passenger survey, assessing topics such as waiting times, staff courtesy, cleanliness and comfort within the airport premises.

The election comes as part of a study that assesses passenger satisfaction in 34 indicators, namely, services offered by airports, service quality, waiting times, staff courtesy, cleanliness and comfort.

This is the ninth time, in the past ten years, that Porto Airport is awarded by ACI - Airports Council International. The Francisco Sá Carneiro airport has also doubled the number of passengers and routes since 2007.

In 2015, Porto airport reached 8.1 million passengers, an increase of 16.7% over the previous year.

In the last ten years, the number of passengers at the Francisco Sá Carneiro airport rose from 3.1 million in 2005 to 8.1 million in 2015, according to data from ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal.
