fDi Magazine, a Financial Times publication specialised in international investment, revealed the results of the 2022/23 edition of the “European Cities and Regions of the Future” ranking. The Municipality of Porto was distinguished for its strategy for attracting foreign investment, winning 3rd place in the category “FDI strategy – Mid-sized Cities”.

After winning 5th place in the 2020/21 edition, the city of Porto was risen to the European podium, reaching 3rd position in the ranking of mid-sized European cities, in the category of best strategy for attracting foreign direct investment.

On the chart led by Vilnius (Lithuania), Belfast (United Kingdom) comes in second and Porto completes the podium, placing itself ahead of other European cities such as Edinburgh, Newcastle and Nottingham, in the United Kingdom, or Bilbao, in Spain. Check the top-10 here.

The result reflects the priority that Porto City Hall gives to economic dynamism and job creation by attracting foreign companies and investors to Porto. The municipal strategy is led by InvestPorto, a municipal division specialized in promoting and facilitating direct investment. Since its creation in 2015, InvestPorto has already contributed to the attraction of more than 1,700 million euros in investment and the creation of more than 18 thousand new jobs in Porto.

To create this ranking, the panel of judges invited by fDi Magazine evaluated the investment promotion strategies of 75 European cities and regions, grouped according to their population. The method implemented considered several indicators such as the type of investment attracted in the last 18 months, the fastest growing sectors and the initiatives taken to promote post pandemic economic recovery.

The “fDi European Cities and Regions of the Future” awards ceremony will be held on the 15th of March, in parallel with MIPIM 2022, the largest Real Estate investment fair in Europe, where the Municipality of Porto will be present again with its own stand and the largest representation ever.
