Porto Pianofest will return in August with some news

Stars of American Ballet, Zsolt Bognar, and Lara Downes, considered the “Classical Woman of the Year” in 2022 by Performance Today, are some of the names that are booked for the concerts and dynamics of the 8th edition of the Porto Pianofest, which will take place from the 1st to the 9th of August. By occupying some of the most emblematic concert halls and passing through Vila Nova de Famalicão, the event, organised by Nuno Marques, a pianist who lives in New York, is a way to democratise the access to classical music, in its pedagogical and cultural aspects.

The opening concert is set for the 1st of August, in Casa da Música, with a performance by the violinist Emanuel Salvador and the pianist Nuno Marques. The piano and the violin will accompany the performance of Stars of American Ballet, a company that travels through all corners of the world to showcase the best dancers to classical dance enthusiasts and lovers.

Apart from Casa da Música, the next edition of Porto Pianofest, establishing a route that will pass through the most emblematic concert halls of the city: Reitoria da Universidade do Porto, Pátio do Museu Guerra Junqueiro and Palácio da Bolsa, where a number of different concerts, shows, master classes, and other activities will be held and that integrate the programme of artistic residences.

“In this edition, in addition to reinforcing Porto as a cultural hub, we want to show the transcendent power of music. It attracts people from all four corners of the world into the city, creating interactions between musicians from all around the globe with the Portuguese audiences which, in turn, creates a democratic and inclusive culture. That’s the purpose of the festival: to create bridged through music”, Nuno Marques underlines.

The Porto Pianofest counts with the joint production of Porto City Hall and is sponsored by the High Patronage of the President of the Republic. The list of partners of the festival is long, and it counts on the Porto Music Conservatory, Casa da Música, University of Porto, Palácio da Bolsa, Porto Comercial Association, among others.
