Aware of its role as leader by example in the challenge of decarbonization, Porto will invest around 10 million euros in the acquisition of more sustainable equipment and vehicles, at the service of Porto Ambiente, in the daily activities of urban cleaning and waste collection in the city.

In the total more than six million will be destinated to solutions, mostly electrical, to support the activity of cleaning public space, namely sweeping equipment, which will make this area more efficient.

Regarding waste collection, the value exceeds three million euros for the modernization of the fleet, replacing the oldest with means that make it possible to optimize the service provided to residents and, at the same time, favour more sustainable solutions, with vehicles powered by natural gas.

These investments represent a strong commitment to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of Porto and comes as a result of the commitment of the Municipality of Porto in these areas, through consistent and continuous investment in recent years, which has allowed historical results to be achieved in recycling and urban cleaning and recognition by the main entities of the area.

These initiatives, unanimously welcomed by all political forces, are part of Porto Ambientes’ decarbonization strategy, in line with the objectives of carbon neutrality, advocated by the Porto Climate Pact. The initiative, officially launched in September 2022, already, has more than 300 subscribers, including elements of civil society, organizations, companies, and institutions united for the carbon neutrality in the city by 2030.
