Livraria Lello and Museu FC Porto – Estádio do Dragão were distinguished with two of the seven world awards of the Remarkable Venue Awards. The awarding of the prizes, promoted by the global online platform for booking and purchasing Tigets tickets, resulted from the online choice of consumers all over the world. The winners were announced during the Tourism Innovation Summit, TIS, which took place this week, in Seville.

Livraria Lello received the distinction of Most Innovative Venue while the Best Attraction was awarded to Museu do FC Porto – Estádio do Dragão. Both places had already received, in September, the respective awards for Best Attraction in Portugal.

“Audacity and boldness have been part of our DNA for 116 years, and for that reason, we could not be happier with this recognition as the most innovative venue. We are also incredibly happy to be an example of how a bookstore can reinvent itself and have innovation as one of the pillars pf its performance”, says, in a statement, Aurora Pedro Pinto Livraria Lello’s manager.

For the director of the Museu FC Porto, “this award is a recognition of the work that the blue and white universe has been developing. It is proof that those who visits us truly recognizes that this museum is one of the best museums in the world”. “Both Porto City Hall and Associação de Turismo Porto e Norte have done an excellent job of promoting the city externally. But I think there is no doubt about the importance of this award in promoting the city abroad”, adds Mafalda Magalhães, quoted by Porto Canal.

Portugal in the spotlight

This was the first time that our county participated in the Remarkable Venue Awards, linked to the tourism sector, and soon with two of the three Global Winners awarded to Porto (Oceanário de Lisboa was elected the Most Remarkable Venue). Portugal stood out as the most represented country among those awarded in the international vote.

The Best Museum award was given to the Casa-Museu Salvador Dalí, in Spain, and the Best Landmark to Scholoss Neuschwanstein, in Germany. Cova de s’Aigua, in Spain, received the award for Best Onsite Experience and the Hidden London, exclusive tours by London Transport Museum won the award for Best Hidden Gem.”

“One of the highlights of the night is the popularity of Portuguese attractions that, even competing in the Remarkable Venue Awards for the first time, won three of the seven awards. This is a recognition that the Portuguese touristic and cultural offer is an international reference – and Tiqets is proud that, over the years, it has been increasingly invested in the promotion of heritage and tourism in Portugal”, mentions Jaume Vidal, Tiqets’ regional director for Spain and Portugal.

Organized by Tiqets since 2017, the Remarkable Venue Awards recognize the best museums and tourist attractions in the world. These attractions were chosen through a global vote in which consumers from all over the world participated. In competition were attractions from Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.
