The Porto City Council was once again certified with the Platinum level for its work in promoting sustainable development and quality of life in the city. Recognition of ISO 37120 – Sustainable Cities and Communities is granted by the World Council on City Data.

This certification, which takes place for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrates, in the words of Catarina Araújo, councillor in charge of Human Resources, "our concern to continuously improve the quality of life and sustainability of the city, so we plan to renew it in 2024, contributing to the projection of the city of Porto nationally and internationally in this field".

The Platinum level distinction is the highest among five levels of certification and involves 19 thematic areas related to public services and quality of life, such as economics, education, energy, environment and climate change, finance, health, governance, sport and culture, housing, security, mobility, and urban planning.

Of the 151 existing indicators, the Municipality reported 121 indicators, and all essential indicators were answered, as well as 49 of the 59 possible support indicators.

The Porto City Council has thus reiterated its position among the 100 cities in the world, distributed in 35 countries, with the ability to report reliable and globally comparable indicators that allow the evaluation of the performance of public services and quality of life.

The compiled data allows us to monitor the progress of the sustainable development of the city and support the resource planning policy, to achieve a more responsible and sustainable society.

The Municipality considers that the planning, implementation, and monitoring of actions to promote the sustainable development of cities are fundamental to accelerate progress and respond to the needs of competitiveness, resilience, sustainability and quality of life.
