Ping! Incursion programme addresses Botanic at the BMAG

The next event in the scope of Ping! Incursion programme, promoted by the Porto Municipal Gallery happens between 1 and 3 July. The theme programme is “Gineceu & Estigma”, and focuses on the knowledge on the Botanical universe and new perspectives that arise in the sector, namely gender, politics and nature.

On 1 July, at 7 pm, the auditorium of the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library (BMAG) hosts the conference “Pensar como uma árvore: Ética e Estética recompõem os laços quebrados com a terra”, [“Thinking like a tree: ethics and aesthetics that combine broken bonds with Earth”, free translation], with the anthropologist, agricultural engineer and one of the most renowned European voices of Ecofeminism, Yayo Herrero.

The session is moderated by Marta Lança, who holds a degree in Portuguese Literature and is a PhD student in Artistic Studies, with a research in post-colonial issues, memory disputes and knowledge production in collaborative platforms.

The following day, on 2 July, also at the BMAG auditorium, time for an “artist talk” by multidisciplinary artist and researcher Uriel Orlow, themed “Conversa com as folhas” [“Conversing with Leaves”]. The artist will address issues such as flower migration, botanical nationalism and gardens as tools of resistance. The talk also includes a workshop with Orlow, as a result of his residency at the Gardens of the Palácio de Cristal, which will address the political implications and the relationship between humans and plants.

The conference with Yayo Herrero and “artist talk” by Uriel Orlow are access free, but require previous ticket collection (maximum 2 per person) up to 15 minutes before the start of the event, or via advanced booking via the email galeriamunicipal@agoraporto.pt.
