Have you ever seen the inside of a prison? "The Portuguese prison photo" is the name of a project that conveys both historic and contemporary prisons in Portugal and is on show at the Portuguese Photography Centre (CPF), located in the Old Prison and Porto Appeal Court building.

The opening is scheduled for 8 September.

The 150 contemporary photos were shot by two photographers, Portuguese Luís Barbosa and Swiss Peter M. Schulthess, in 2016 and 2017. Also included are historic screenshots from the National Archives.

This exhibit is the result of a joint cooperation project involving Portuguese and Swiss photographers, CPF Managing Board and investigators from the Universities of Porto and Lausanne.

The photographers were allowed to visit the interior of six prisons in the North of Portugal and one in the Lisbon area, in 2016 and early 2017.

The display can be visited between 9 September and 3 December 2017.
