Did you know that in the 17th century, an iron mask was used in the treatment of psychological or moral diseases? Would you like to see the backpack João Garcia, the first Portuguese to reach the world's highest peak, used when he conquered Mount Everest? Or the first penicillin packaging administered in Portugal in 1945?

These are but some of the objects on display at the Pharmacy Museum in Porto, on 23 November, starting at 2 pm, under the celebration of the 21st anniversary of that institution.

Themed "Museu Global 20 + 1", the exhibition features a set of objects that will be publicly displayed for the first time.

The exhibition will be on show from 24 November 2017 to 31 March 2018 and its main goal is to demonstrate the dimension and the diversity of the Pharmacy Museum's collection in the fields of health and pharmacy, in several civilizations and cultures over time that bear witness to Mankind survival on Earth.

Other objects on display also show the influence and the type of public moral principles in different eras, namely a chastity belt, a condom from the 18th century and an instrument for vibrating massages used for treating female hysteria.

The Pharmacy Museum has developed the application "Museu Global 20+1", a way of "monitor the path of innovation regarding science and health over time".
