The starting shot was heard at 6 p.m. on Sunday for the most traditional of road races (and walks). On Avenida dos Aliados, the councillor for Sport, Catarina Araújo, the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, João Paulo Correia, and the athlete Fernanda Ribeiro gave the order for over eight thousand athletes to start the 28th Lidl São Silvestre City of Porto race. Pedro Amaro and Mónica Silva were the fastest to run the 10km through the city.

The SL Benfica athlete made his debut in the São Silvestre do Porto race, finishing in 30.06 minutes. At the age of 20, Pedro Amaro came to the Invicta race with a history of winners in the family: his mother, Mónica Gama, had also already won first place on the podium in the first edition of São Silvestre, in 1994.

In this edition of the race, Pedro’s twin brother, João Amaro, came in sixth place.

After his victory in 2022, Rui Teixeira, running for Sporting CP, came in third place of the men's 10km competition, finishing in 30.11 minutes, while the other also Sporting CP athlete, Hélio Gomes, crossed the line in 30.10 minutes, placing him second in the race.

The women's 10km event gave Monica Silva her big win. The SC Salgueiros athlete, who was the fastest in the edition of São Silvestre Cidade do Porto in 2019, finished this year's race in 35.20 minutes.

Behind Mónica Silva was SC Braga athlete, Sara Duarte, who finished the race in 36.46 minutes, and the podium was completed by Laura Silva, from CD São Salvador do Campo, crossing the line in 37.12 minutes.

With the rain giving way at the end of the day on Sunday, thousands of people also took to the streets to support athletes along the course of the Lidl São Silvestre Cidade do Porto.
