The Parque da Cidade and Jardim do Passeio Alegre, both supervised by the Municipality of Porto, are once again recognized by the Green Flag Award programme – an award given to the best urban parks and green spaces in the world.

The Green Flag Award is a non-profit international accreditation programme that since 1996 recognizes and rewards parks and green spaces with the highest standards of management and maintenance. This accreditation is awarded annually by the UK Government Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities by Keep Britain Tidy.

Since 2019, Parque da Cidade and Jardim do Passeio Alegre have been distinguished by the Green Flag Award. At the same time, and for the second consecutive year, Jardim do Passeio Alegre is also accredited with the additional Green Heritage Site distinction, which is intended for spaces of high historical and heritage value.
