More than 200 swimmers are already confirmed for the first edition of Douro Bridges Porto & Gaia Open Water, to be held on September 4, in Douro River. The competition will start in Ribeira do Porto and finish on the beach next to Marina da Afurada, in Vila Nova de Gaia, over a distance of approximately four kilometers.

The last open water event taking place in Douro River was in 1979, with Travessia do Porto a Nado, a competition that had its origin in 1916 (with official results from 1917).

Douro Bridges - Porto & Gaia Open Water, which is part of the national open water relay and takes place under the aegis of Federação Portuguesa de Natação, will be organized by Associação de Natação do Norte de Portugal (ANNP) in partnership with the municipalities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.

Registration for the competition runs until August 28.
