The house where Ruben A. and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen grew up hosts, as of yesterday, the Biodiversity Gallery - Live Science Centre. The official opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, the Rector of Porto University and the Mayor of Porto.

For two weeks, entrance to the gallery is free. The Casa Andresen, that houses the Porto Botanical Garden, is the first centre of the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto.

This is the first live science centre that is specifically dedicated to biodiversity, combining Biology and Natural History in order to promote new sensorial experiences to celebrate the diversity of life.

This was, according to the President of the Republic, "a moment of completeness", a place where "the soul of Sophia" embraces art and science in a true union of diversities.

The centre is equipped with new functionalities and services, namely museum resources and mechanical fittings, sophisticated multimedia platforms and audiovisual material. Visitors are invited to embark on a journey through science, literature, and art, where "the most beautiful life stories are told".

The Live Science Centre can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 am and 6 pm. The only exception is the second Sunday of each month, whose opening hours are from 10 am to 1 pm.
