The exhibition "Caspar Walter Rauh and the Fantastic Realism", devoted to the German graphic artist, illustrator and painter, shall end Saturday November 22. The display, the first organised in the Iberian Peninsula, is on show at the Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão.

Caspar Walter Rauh is an important representative of the surrealism and realism movements in painting.

The opening of the exhibit, which happened on 26 October, was attended by German Ambassador Christof Weil, the Goethe Institute website, Elisabeth Volpel, composer Horst Lohse, Caspar Walter Rauh son-in-law, and Prof. Hans-Walter Schmidt-Hannisa, from the National University of Ireland and owner of the exhibited collection.

The fundamental goal is to enhance the public knowledge of the work of Caspar Walter Rauh (1912/1983).

John Greenfield, Professor in the Department of German Studies from the Faculty of Arts, University of Porto explains that the artist "is among the great figures in the history of 20th century art, although he is one of the most forgotten".

The exhibition, just a fraction of Rauh's work, "stands out for the richness of its images", John Greenfield adds.

The exhibition will be on show till 25 November at the Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão (Carlos Alberto Square).
This event is access free and visiting hours are Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 5.30 pm, and Saturday, from 10 am to 1 pm and 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
