It’s time to summer at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library

July is on already and, starting on 13 July, activities such as playing with Legos, toys and reading sessions and other treats for the youngest ones are back to the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. Brace yourselves for the “Verão a Valer” activities, targeted at children aged between 18 months and 12 years old.

The “Verão a Valer”, which translates as ’Real summer’ (free translation], kick starts on 13 July with the workshop “Young Engineers”; children aged 6 to 12 years old will learn the basics of science and technology, as well as Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, by using Lego sets. This activity is always scheduled to take place on Tuesdays, at 10.30 am and at 12.30 pm. Other sessions are scheduled for 20 and 27July.

On Wednesdays, time to participate in the Optical Toys Workshop. Children aged 6 and 9 years old have the opportunity to build toys that provide optical illusion effects, such as the Taumatrópico, the Folioscópio or the Pilão ótico. These incredible illusion effects applied on animation are delivered on 14, 21 and 28 July, between 10.30 am and 11.30 am.

The youngest ones, aged 3 and 6, can rely on the reading session “Contos de Sol e Mar” at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. Short stories on the sun and the sea, followed by a practical workshop. These sessions are scheduled for 15, 22 and 29 July, between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm.

Fridays also encompass joy and fun, with activities that are real treats for babies, aged between 18 months and 36 months. The activity is themed “Papinhas de mimos para bebés curiosos” [baby food for curious babies”, free translation]. The activities will take place on 16, 23 and 30 July, between 10.30 am and 11. 30 am. The Library’s outlining goal is to provide “a session of tales with sounds of the world, made up of songs, sweet drops of rain, magical vegetables and lots of cuddles”.
