International Day of Yoga celebrates "Peace" at Ramalde Sports Complex on Sunday, 24th June

International Day of Yoga is celebrated on 21st June, but in the city of Porto this international day of Mind and Body unification is commemorated on Sunday, 24th June, the Day of the Patron Saint of Porto, São João.

The Portuguese Confederation of Yoga celebrates this day since 2002 and this year's edition is celebrated at the Ramalde Sports Complex under the motto "Yoga for Peace".

This is a joint organisation with the Indian Embassy and the support of Porto City Hall.

An estimated number of two thousand Yoga performers are expected to take part in the joint Yoga class, which is also a symbol for religious tolerance and a celebration of cultural and ethnic diversity.

The Ambassador of India in Portugal, Nandini Singla, and also HH Jagat Guru Amrta Súryánanda Mahá Rája, President of the Portuguese and European Yoga Confederations, will attend this Yoga class.

This event is participation free. The class is scheduled to start at 10 am but it is advisable that participants arrive up to thirty minutes ahead.

The United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131., on 11 December 2014.

The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
