Rui Moreira visited the Porto Firefighter Station and the Municipal Police today, after welcoming the National Director of PSP (Public Police Authority), Magina da Silva. To all of them, Mayor Rui Moreira said "thank you". 

These days, Mayor Rui Moreira hardly leaves his house, where he continues to run the city of Porto (Monday, 27th April, there will be the third Municipal Executive Meeting, via videoconference). However, today, Rui Moreira went back to Sala Dona Maria, in the Town Hall, to welcome PSP National Director, Magina da Silva, installed last March, and the New Porto Metropolitan Police Commander, Paula Peneda, of the same police force.

Besides thanking the "extraordinary work by the police forces" during this crisis, Rui Moreira once again expressed the Municipality's availability to help the security forces' work in the city of Porto.

Magina da Silva thanked the Municipality the established coordination of efforts and the Metropolitan Commander enhanced the Mayor's availability to always cooperate with the PSP and to provide means.

Recently, the Municipality of Porto donated ten vehicles to patrol actions in the city, asking for a special attention to municipal neighbourhoods.

In the morning, the Mayor of Porto also paid a visit to the Porto Firefighter Station, where Commander Carlos Saraiva and the Second Commander showed the Crisis Room, from where the firefighter coordinate their operations during this crisis in Porto, namely the transport of the elderly that test positive for coronavirus, transport as well as disinfection in the scope of the Municipal screening promoted by the City Hall to all the retirement homes in Porto, of which five thousand people were tested.

Also fundamental is the support role of the firefighters to the field Hospital Porto., set up by Porto City Hall at SuperBock Arena - Pavilhão Rosa Mota, ensuring transportation to discharged or admitted patients.

The commander showed Mayor Rui Moreira the devices that are in place, thanks to the investment by the Municipality. Rui Moreira was accompanied by the Councillor for Transports, Cristina Pimentel, and the Head of Office, Nuno Santos.

Finally, Rui Moreira stopped by the Municipal Police and was welcomed by Commander António Leitão da Silva, who explained the role of the men and women of the Municipal Police in the handling of the crisis, namely raising people's awareness and monitoring the streets. No Municipal Police member has tested positive for the new coronavirus, which confirms the level of security in place.
