In the past few weeks, several "thank you" notes and acknowledgment messages have been sent to municipal workers that ensure trash collection in the city of Porto.

They are the brave ones who collect overwhelming quantities of household garbage and they do it bravely as it is an essential service.

Citizens do not forget them and spontaneously left "thank you" and encouragement messages on pieces of paper, mostly written by the younger ones, which are left by the waste bins to thank this heroes.

Waste collection is ensured in the city of Porto, now with enhanced protective procedures to follow, in the scope of the contingency plan due to the pandemic. Therefore, the collection of waste and the hygiene standards of Porto are running as usual, but now in respect of the measures issued by Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira.

All waste and recycling bins are particularly sterilized, both to protect workers and to stop the proliferation of the coronavirus.

Household bulky waste collection service is not running for the time being, in order to safeguard everyone's integrity as it involves social proximity.

However, door to door collection continues to be undertaken, but collaborators are no longer able to go inside facilities.

Meanwhile, 12 special teams have been set up in Porto for cleaning and disinfecting the waste containers or receptacles, by using a disinfectant solution that ensures that no pathogens remain.

This is a physical demanding activity and one that can be hazardous, so these messages are messages of hope and acknowledgement of the important work carried out by these municipal workers.

Thank you!
