From May 23 to 28, Porto is the European Design Capital

From May 23 to 28, Porto is the European Design Capital, with a programme of events that include exhibitions, studio walks, and workshops and culminates with the European Design Awards 2017 ceremony on 27 May at Teatro Rivoli.

After Vienna, Istanbul, Cologne, Helsinki, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Zurich or Athens, this year's ceremony will take place in Porto.

The brand Porto. was awarded double gold in "Branding Implementation" and "Best of Show", in 2015, in Istanbul. It was at that time that the idea of organising the event in Porto in 2017 started to take shape.

In 2016, Demetrios Fakinos, the Greek leader of the organization, announced Porto as the chosen city to host ED Awards 2017 edition.

Porto also organizes numerous conferences, exhibitions, workshops and guided tours to design studios.

The seventh floor of Silo Auto's car park gallery will host the "Two Pages" exhibition, a project by designers Konstantinos Trichas e Dionysis Livanis, which features a collection of 112 spreads comprising design approaches that range from drawing, sketching, illustration, photography and design. 

More than 450 artists from all over the world, also artists based in Porto, have contributed to this project that aims at promoting the creation of sketchbooks, showcasing different trends in the field of visual communication. This display inaugurates 23 May. 

The workshop "A Tumblr Manifesto: The Critical Intentions of the Interface Deco", conducted by Post Eady, will be held at the third floor of the Post Office building, May 25, starting at 2 pm.

The highlight of the week will be the events taking place Saturday, 27 may, starting at 2:30 pm with the preliminary conference and the awards ceremony of the European Design Awards 2017, later that day, at around 6:30 pm.

The wrap-up will be the after party at Edifício dos Correios, starting at around 11 pm.
