Fantasporto celebrates 38 years and achieves international recognition

The Fantasporto has been celebrating the film industry for the past 38 years. This year, the "Fantas" honours the world of cinema, under the motto "Grande Cinema do Mundo" [World Film Industry].

This years'edition will kick-off on 20 February and it will debate ethics, honour Lauro António and bring to the Rivoli a selection of almost 120 films from more than 60 countries.

Mário Dorminsky, cofounder of the festival, together with Beatriz Pacheco Pereira, noted the growing prestige of Fantasporto namely by the listing of the festival in film journals of world reference, as is the case of "Variety", which refers the Portuguese festival among the 25 best in the world, the "Moviemaker", ranking Fantasporto among the 50 best worldwide and many other publications that signal the festival among the top ten Independent Cinema and one of the best in the area of Gothic films.

The cofounder also stated he was sorry that the festival didn't have a suitable government support, comparing it to the state support given to the San Sebastian Festival in Spain.

Beatriz Pacheco Pereira, in turn, enhanced that this 38th Edition, sponsored by Porto City Hall, will celebrate cinema with everyone that visit the Rivoli from 20 February to 4 March.
