European Design Awards in Porto are knocking at our door and ticketing sales already started

European Design Awards Festival offers special conditions to students: a single ticket costs EUR 5, giving access to the conference, the award ceremony and the closing party.

Porto will host the 10th Edition of European Design Awards on May 27, at Rivoli Theatre that will honour and award the best in Communication Design all over Europe, in more than 30 categories.

The ED-Awards are unique in their field, acknowledging the best of graphic design, illustration and digital design in the European continent.

The 2017 ED Awards Edition is themed "Celebrating Creative Excellence". Porto won the most important of these prizes in 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey with the brand Porto. (the brand was awarded the highest distinction level - double Gold) among 1000 applications from more than 35 countries such as Iceland, Greece and Russia.

In addition to the award ceremony, that will bring to Porto the best of design, studios and agencies from all of Europe, the host city of Porto also organizes numerous conferences, exhibitions, workshops and guided tours to studios to foster the debate on the role of design in citizen's lives.

SPECIAL DISCOUNTS FOR STUDENTS

For the first time hosted in Porto, the European Design Awards Festival offers special conditions to students. 

Students are eligible to pay 5 euros to attend the conference, and the awards ceremony on May 27. Also, students will be able to access freely all activities associated with the event, such as design workshops and guided tours.

Students' tickets on sale only at Rivoli's box office, as of today, May 9. Purchase requires the presentation of the student's card.

THE PROGRAMME IS SET

The 10th Edition of ED Awards has officially kicked-off last 27 April, when celebrating "World Graphics Day" at ESAD-Matosinhos and Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Porto, with a conference under the title "How to promote your Work in the Design Arena".

Before the prize giving ceremony, there will be a number of workshops, exhibitions and guided tours to studio designs throughout the city. Some of these parallel events require prior registration.

Starting May 23 and running until May 28, the seventh floor of Silo Auto's car park gallery will host the "Two Pages" exhibition. 

This project started in 2012 and has since had the contribution of more than 450 artists from cities such as New York, London, Seoul, Tokyo, Paris, Berlin, Athens, Santiago de Chile and Porto, just to name a few.

The "Two Pages" exhibit features a selection of 112 spreads that encompass different design approaches such as drawing, sketching, illustration, photography and design.

Along with the exhibit, designers Konstantinos Trichas and Dionysis Livanis will organise a workshop on visual language and urban culture in Porto on May 25, from 12 am and 4 pm.

Also on Thursday, May 25, starting at 2:00 pm, the third floor of the Post Office building will host the workshop "A Tumblr Manifesto: The Critical Intentions of the Interface Deco", conducted by Post Eady.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a perspective of the various trends in Graphic Design as a subject.

All eyes on Rivoli Theatre, 27 May, starting at 2:30 pm for the preliminary conference and the awards ceremony of the European Design Awards 2017, later that day, at around 6:30 pm, hosted by comedian Alistair Barrie.
