Doctoral thesis of the University of Porto was elected the best in Europe

The doctoral thesis by Margarida Carvalho, former PhD student in Political Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) and researcher at INESC TEC, was recognised by the EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award as the best in Europe, in the field of operational research.

Themed "Computation of equilibria on integer programming games", the work of this Portuguese researcher applies the Theory of Games to kidney exchanges between hospitals.

The doctoral thesis was written and presented in 2016 by Margarida Carvalho, under the supervision of Andrea Lodi and João Pedro Pedroso, Professor at the FCUP and INESC TEC researcher.

The study developed by Margarida Carvalho enables both the optimization of a company's coefficient and the anticipation of responses by competitors.
