In the context of a protocol signed between Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (TNSC) and Coliseu Porto, opera will again be on stage at Coliseu Porto. "Turandot", by Giacomo Puccini, is the first opera to reset the operatic tradition on 21 October in this iconic concert hall in the city of Porto.

"After all there is opera at the Coliseu!" this is the way Coliseu Porto announces the partnership with TNSC on its website.

As can be read on Coliseu Porto website, "the realisation of this partnership that kick-starts the best possible way with this amazing show is the materialisation of one of the goals established by Coliseu Porto at the time of its refoundation."

"Turandot", divided into three acts, premiered in 1926 at the Theatre Scala of Milan, will be presented in a "staged concert variation", conducted by Joana Carneiro.

The starring role belongs to Elisabete Matos, the most prestigious Portuguese lyrical singer.

With this production, after 33 years, the São Carlos Theatre returns to the stage in Porto.

In a statement, the institution marks this longed-for comeback. The Diretor of Coliseu Porto, Eduardo Paz Barros, explained newspaper "Observador" the willingness for this to be a constant collaboration. Paz Barroso recalls the existing technical conditions, "We can organize an international Opera festival here, and we have two Orchestra Pits".

"Where decentralisation is concerned, Coliseu is clearly prepared for it, with the advantage of offering very accessible prices and great seats", Director of Coliseu Porto concluded.
