This is the second concert in a cycle of three concerts of music orchestra, the result of an artistic and cultural partnership between Coliseu Porto and the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra.

The famous musical oratorio was first performed in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and it was premiered in London almost a year later. Although The Messiah's structure resembles that of opera, it is not in dramatic form.

This oratorio has become one of the best-known and most recurrently performed choral works in Western music.
