Christmas lightings are switched on 1 December at Avenida dos Aliados

Christmas lightings in Porto will be switched on 1 December at 5.30 pm. As usual, the occasion will be marked in Avenida dos Aliados, when the Christmas tree will be lit at General Humberto Delgado Square, in front of Town Hall and thus the holidays officially begin.

Crowds will line up to witness the fireworks display and a Xmas concert. The city of Porto will be at its most bling with the festive makeover.

This year, more streets in the city of Porto will be home to 1, 95 LED lightbulbs; golden and blueish sparkly lights will blast the busiest arteries in town. Plan your wintery outing to all the main lights in Porto for Christmas 2017, visit a festive market, arrange a spot of ice skating or start your Christmas shopping.

The full programme for the opening celebration includes choirs, ice-rinks and a fantasy square for the youngest.

As in the last two years, the City Hall marks this date with an open celebration at Avenida dos Aliados. Last year, around 50 thousand people lined up to see the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony.

Christmas lights will be switched on daily, starting at 5.30 pm, from 1 December 2017 until 7 January 2018. The parallel programme of events is yet to be announced.
