Last Sunday, Batalha Centro de Cinema celebrated Victory Day, a date that celebrates Bangladesh's victory in the War of Liberation, with the screening of “1971 Shei Shob Din” by Hridi Haq.

A hit with audiences in Bangladesh, the film represents the Bengali actress and playwright's directorial debut and features veteran Ferdous Ahmed alongside Mamunur Rashid, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Munmun Ahmed, Shilpi Sharkar Apu, Tareen Jahan, Litu Anam, Saju Khadem and Sanjida Preeti.

The event marked the new edition of the “Vizinhos: Batalhawood” project and was attended by elements of the Bangladeshi community in Porto.

Regarding the International Mother Language Day — which is celebrated on February 21 — one of the most internationally recognized films in Bangladeshi cinematography will be presented on the 25th of that month, Sunday, also at 7:15 pm: “A River Called Titas” (1973), by Ritwik Ghatak.

Debuted a year after Bangladesh's independence, the work is located in a fishing region next to the Titas River, in the East of Bengal, in present-day Bangladesh, and follows the daily lives of its inhabitants, portraying the conflict between ancestral habits and a time of intense change.
