Batalha presents films chosen by the Bengali community in Porto

In the coming months, Batalha Centro de Cinema will resume Vizinhos: Batalhawood project with the presentation of two films selected along with the Bangladesh community association in Porto, signing two important dates for that country.

On the 17th of December, Sunday, at 7:15 p.m., Victory Day (celebrated the day before) is marked with ““1971 Shei Shob Din, by Hridi Haq. A debut as a director of the famous Bengali actor and playwriter Hridi Haq, the film portrays the Liberation War through the experiences of a family. A success among audiences in Bangladesh, the movie stars the veteran Ferdous Ahmed alongside Mamunur Rashid, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Munmun Ahmed, Shilpi Sharkar Apu, Tareen Jahan, Litu Anam, Saju Khadem and Sanjida Preeti.

In connection with International Day of Native Language – which is celebrated on the 21st of February –on the 25th of that same month, on a Sunday, also at 7:15 p.m., one of the most internationally recognized films in the Bangladeshi cinematography will be shown: ““A River Called Titas” (1973), by Ritwik Ghatak. Premiered a year after the independence of Bangladesh, the story is in a fishing area by the river Titas, in the East of Bengal, in present day Bangladesh, and follows the daily lives of its inhabitants, portraying the conflict between ancient habits and a time of intense change.

The restored copy that will be presented highlights the black and white and the aesthetic thoroughness of one of the best-known names of the Bengali cinema, along with Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen. Both sessions are free to attend, upon collection of a ticket on the same day.
