Bandstand programme celebrates ornamental creativity in Porto

The programme "Coretos em Festa" (Bandstand celebration) started 17 August in Porto. Decoration and entertainment are the key words to celebrate these symbols set throughout the city gardens and parks designed to accommodate musical bands performing concerts.
The focus of this municipal initiative is to promote ornamental creativity, inviting the public to take part in imaginative craft workshops under a specific theme.
This event is organised by Porto Lazer and runs until September.
Bandstands became popular by the end of the 19th century, when authorities realized urban areas living conditions needed improvements, namely green and open spaces where the general public could relax. These recreational structures quickly became very popular and were considered a necessity in parks.
The "Coretos em Festa" programme is part of the municipal summer programme. It is open to participants of all ages (children above the age of three years old).
