"In search of our origins: the sky is only the beginning" is the telling title of the conference that will take place 5 September, at Serralves Auditorium. Portuguese astrophysicist David Sobral is Professor at Lancaster University, in the United Kingdom.

Free entry.

Between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm, the debate will happen under the verbs of perception and opinion.

"Where do we come from? What are we made of and what is the Universe made of? How did we get here?  For millennia we asked ourselves several questions. The way we see the world or ourselves as altered time and again, but the more important questions remain unanswered. Today we know the answers lie ahead, around us, beyond our planet. With modern Astronomy and Astrophysics, the sky is not the limit at all, but merely the beginning, for a surprising journey through time and space, in search of our origins."

The conference is organised by several departments and institutes of Porto University, under the celebrations programme to mark the centennial of Óscar Lopes' birth (1917-2013), Professor and Linguist of Porto University.
