"Sunwheel", collective project by Moradavaga designed for the festivities of São João 2016, at the invitation of PortoLazer, is nominated for the BIGMAT'17 International Architecture Award, in the Ephemeral Architectural category.

Inspired and modelled by the St John's cascades and in the summer solstice, "Sunwheel" was temporarily exhibited in Avenida dos Aliados, having as a framework the water surface by Álvaro Siza Vieira.

The strong visual impact of this objet d'art was the result of the enormous circle made of hundreds of small plaques of vibrant golden-yellow colour, whose rotation would produce different mirror images throughout the day, according to day light, night, wind variations or the speed imprinted by users themselves.

The artistic installation is one of the ten finalists to the International Architecture Award in the Ephemeral Architectural category.

This year, the jury has selected 87 projects among the more than 900 projects submitted to the competition.

The winners will be known on 24 November, during the award ceremony that will be held in Florence, Italy.

The selection board is chaired by Jesús Aparicio and composed of Xaveer De Geyter (Belgium), Henrieta Moravíková (Czech Republic + Slovakia), Marc Barani (France), Francesco Isidori (Italy), Paulo David (Portugal + Spain), and the Prize secretary Jesús Donaire.
