14th edition of "Serralves em Festa" brings contemporary art to Porto

Contemporary circus, a Terry Riley concert and 50 hours non-stop of different artistic manifestations, are included in the 14th edition programming of "Serralves in Festa", themed "Quebrar muros", which will take place on June 2, 3 and 4.

The major event of contemporary culture in the country begins June 2, at 6 pm and ends June 4, at 10 pm. 

The celebration, however, has an early start, the day before, June 1, outside Serralves premises with loads of recreational activities in downtown Porto, namely Jardim das Virtudes, Cordoaria, Praça Carlos Alberto and Terreiro da Sé, jointly organised with Porto City hall.

 Also, at Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport, on June 1, starting at 11 am, a contemporary circus performance, by Spanish Company Vaivén Circo, themed "Do not Disturb".

Musical programming includes famous names such as Spanish artist Niño de Elche, Colombian musicians Los Piratas or the Japanese band OOIOO, founded by Yoshimi, drummer and trumpeter of the Boredoms.

Nobel Peace Prize and former President and Prime Minister of East Timor, José Ramos Horta, will attend the debate "Os caminhos da Ásia", June 2, starting at 9 pm, in the Serralves Foundation auditorium.

National premiere of contemporary choreographic dance performance "Bombyx Mori", by Polish artist Ola Maciejewska, features three dancers that will unravel the body and artefact relationship. It takes place June 3 and 4, in the Serralves Foundation auditorium.

There will be family driven activities as well, which include photography, painting, science, sculpture, music, theatre and contemporary dance workshops.

A novelty, this year, is "Escola do Rock - Paredes de Coura" that takes place June 3, around 11:30 pm, at Prado de Serralves, a must see for classic rock fans.
