To assure that tradition reaches the homes of the Porto inhabitants, Mercado do Bolhão, has prepared a Christmas programming which aims to follow the shopping of flavours for Christmas Eve and presents for the family. “The Christmas soul is in Bolhão” until 23rd of December with music, performances, and a specially dedicated fair.

From 14th to 16th of December the market hosts its Christmas Fair, dedicated to celebrating the season’s traditional products. For three days, the market opens space for innovative concepts that help reinforce and consolidate the image of Bolhão as a reference market in the city, while promoting consumption habits in local and traditional commerce.

The temporary stands will occupy the market’s gallery, from 11:00 a.m. to 10 p.m., with traditional Christmas sweets, convent sweets, chocolates, cookies, teas, coffees, wines, smoked fish, Christmas decorations and much more.

To engage visitors in the spirit, the days until Christmas Eve will have music and theatre. This Tuesday, the 12th, “Há Jazz no Mercado”, with a concert at Átrio Formosa, by Ana Luísa Marques, Filipe Dias, Gonçalo Sarmento and Antón Quintela.

With a musical selection from Porta-Jazz, the music will be heard again on the 19th of December, this time with Rafael Gomes, Joaquim Festas, João Próspero and Gonçalo Ribeiro.

From jazz to “Há Fado no Mercado”, Gisela João was invited to be the curator of the program that will cheer up the Galeria do Bolhão. Vânia Leal acts this Wednesday, 13th of December, and Patrícia Costa sings on the 20th. All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m.

Music continues to cheer up Christmas shopping at the market with the concerts by Filipe and Marco Ornela and Josefina on the 14th, at Átrio Formosa. The first duo starts at 7:00 p.m. and the singer at 8:15 p.m.

At the same time, in the same place, but on the 21st of December, the performances will be carried out by Carlos Cepinha, Anabela and João Gusmão.

Also participating in the Soul of Bolhão are the Soldadinhos do Natal (14th, at 4:00 p.m.) and the Xmas Carols Portátil (15th, at 6:00 p.m.). The Bando do Gambozinos will bring music and games to the main staircase and the public will also be able to have their traditional caricature done on the spot.

On the last day, at 4:00 p.m., Mercado do Bolhão offers, once again, “Ópera de Bolso”.

The market (re)connects people and makes tradition alive

The campaign “A alma do Natal está no Bolhão” was created as an incentive to bring people closer in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, so that they can personalize the experience and give it another meaning through shopping in traditional commerce, where the market appears like a stage for reviving traditions and habits.

This year, the stands have a personalized communication, in which each retailer identifies its most emblematic article, in addition to supporting sentences adapted to the type of product sold in each space.

The public will also find the best Instagram spots of Bolhão, through the creation of specific spots for visitors to take their photos and share them with the hashtag #NatalNoBolhão.
