After last year’s premiere in Tokyo alongside his brother, Diogo Costa will again compete at the Olympic Games, this time in Paris, in 2024. The sailor is sponsored by the Municipality of Porto through the Sponsorship Programme for High Performance and High Potential Athletes.

The athlete qualified for the world games in the Netherlands, just like Carolina João, becoming the first sailors to win this spot for Portugal in the next year’s Olympics, between the available eight vacancies.

As a statement to Lusa, Diogo Costa, who competes in the 470 class, said that “being able to get [the qualification] in the first round is a tremendous relief”. “It allows us space to prepare for the Games much better than it if were the last one. Now we have a year to prepare for Paris 2024 instead of preparing for the qualification”, he highlighted.

In their last participation, Diogo Costa and his brother Pedro counted on the support from the municipalities of the Atlantic Front and, at the time traveling to Japan, the mayor of Porto City Hall, Rui Moreira, stressed that the participation of the two sailors in the Olympics was “a reason to be proud for all of those who enjoy nautical sports”.
