Porto will install exercise equipment in 18 parks across the city

The Municipality of Porto will install sports equipment in 18 green spaces in the city. The public tender is ongoing and the period to submit proposals runs until 13th November. This initiative will provide the opportunity to exercise outdoors for free. 

The main goal of such an endeavour is to make sure everyone, children and grownups have the perfect and suitable outdoor exercise equipment to keep a healthy lifestyle, for free. These sort of outdoor gym will be located in 18 parks across the city.

These outdoor exercise equipment sites not only help people get fit, but they also help mitigate the effects of social exclusion. There will be fitness equipment, similar to indoor fitness equipment and bio healthy maintenance circuits.

The tender dossier includes the following sites for the installation of exercise equipment: Castelo do Queijo, Jardim do Calém, Parque da Pasteleira, Palácio de Cristal, Jardim Machado de Assis (Foco), Praça dos Álamos, Jardim Sarah Afonso, Jardim de Ezequiel Campos, Jardim Paulo Vallada, Jardim do Conhecimento/ Alameda Eça de Queirós, Jardim de Arca d'Água, Parque infantil da Areosa, Jardim de Belém, Parque de S. Roque, Praça da Corujeira, Avenida da Cidade de Xangai, Parque infantil de Cervantes, Parque do Covelo.

This public tender is launched by Porto City Hall, via the municipal company GO Porto - Gestão e Obras do Porto, is ongoing. The undertaking baseline price is 646 thousand euros, and the execution term of the project is 180 days. Submission of proposals is on until 5pm of 13th November.

This is a step forward to improve the life quality of residents, namely the enjoyment of green spaces. The proposal to revise the Master Plan, which is still in public consultation, establishes the goal of doubling the available green area of public access, through the extension, renovation and rehabilitation of parks and public gardens.
