Porto is hosting an international artistic swimming competition this weekend (consisting of synchronised swimming routines). The event takes place under the auspices of the Swimming Association of the North of Portugal (ANNP) and promises to bring top national and international athletes to the Clube Fluvial Portuense swimming pool in a sport that combines swimming, gymnastics and dance in and out of the water. Admission is free.

This event is part of the 39th edition of the Porto International Meeting, the oldest of its kind in Portugal, which began in 1983 with pure swimming. The first edition in water polo took place in 1986. In 2024, artistic swimming will finally arrive to the Invicta, with more than two hundred male and female athletes expected to participate.

Preparing for the national winter championship

Clubs and sports associations from all over the country, as well as international organisations from Spain, Switzerland and Finland, are taking part in this meeting, in the novice, junior, absolute and masters age groups. These will be two days of competition with dance movements in the water and elevated, drawing up combinations that will certainly give the whole competition a spectacular character.

This competition is organised by the Swimming Association of Northern Portugal, in partnership with Clube Fluvial Portuense, and for the first time with the support of Ágora (in artistic swimming).

According to the association, the event also provides a final preparation, in a competitive context, for all the national teams that will take part in the national winter championship, which will be held between 5 and 7 April.
