FEUP starts the ICT Academy by Huawei and boosts talent

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) officialised a partnership with Huawei Portugal to implement the ICT Academy, the knowledge and innovation programme by the multinational company Huawei, with the main objective of both enhancing the Faculty’s educational contents in the Information and communication technologies (ICT) area and strengthen Huawei’s rapport with the university milieu in the country.

By integrating the nationwide programme, the Faculty of Engineering is focused on nurturing talent in the Information and communication technologies (ICT) area, as well as to bring the Faculty’s syllabus closer to the company’s needs. This protocol with Huawei will enable scholars from FEUP privileged access to contents and learning experiences that will meet the market needs in the field of ICT.

The programme ICT Academy was launched in Portugal in July 2020 and provides an extendable solution as regards training, which includes content development in such areas as Big Data, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things or 5G. In addition, Huawei provides multidimensional solutions for different types of talent and level of market needs, so as to guarantee that the collaboration models meet the demands of the Higher Education Institutions and companies, thus promoting the development of several types of talent regarding ICT.

“This [implementation of the ICT Academy] is another step forward between students, professors and companies, which will bring access to Huawei’s technology closer to our academia, and to the educational contents provided by the programme, as well as the opportunity to get certified training in ICT relevant matters”, explained João Falcão e Cunha, Director of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, to the UP News portal.

In turn, Diogo Madeira da Silva, Head of Public Affairs & Communications of Huawei Portugal, stated that “with the provision of tools for the curriculum development and professional enrichment, the ICT Academy brings more robustness to Portuguese Higher Education Institutions in the country, namely knowledge sharing and innovative solutions”.
